Sometimes your teachers are right...
Today after church Megan and I were cooking dinner (Shepard's Pie). For some reason I felt like testing something my Microbiology teacher told me. We had been talking about different types of bacteria and at some point, I think it was last week, we were talking about bacteria that live in extremely salty environments. These bacteria can live in water (or other solutions) that have around 30% salt in them. Most cells would shrivel up in an environment like that. She said as an example if you put a 30% salt solution in your mouth your body would want to immediately spit it out. I wondered if that would really happen. So today I randomly felt like testing this out. So I prepared about a 30% salt solution and put it in my mouth. It tasted bad, but my body wasn't trying to reject it. However, after I swallowed it, I had the intense urge to throw it up. So I won't say much more, but I felt like I had a stomach ache for a little while. So the moral of the story is don't swallow salt water.
